Dr. Juanakee Adams wears many hats: CEO of Adams Eye Care P.C., Founder of The Juanakee Adams Initiative for Excellent Eye Care and Optimum Health, and acclaimed author of Musings of a Visionist, Lucy Loo and The New School, and The ABC’s of Effective Living.

Dr. Adams proudly holds the distinction of being the first African-American female optometrist in the state of Alabama. Beyond her professional accolades, she is ordained as a minister and revered as an inspirational speaker. While optometry is her chosen profession, Dr. Adams considers vision to be her innate gift—an ability that extends far beyond the physical realm.

In addition to her impressive achievements, Dr. Adams also made a cameo in Tyler Perry’s Madea’s Family Reunion and has graced the screen as a cast member of Seenagers of Birmingham, a groundbreaking docu-series bridging generations. Alongside friends Sherrell Price and Rita Collins, they redefine Southern living with over 50 years of friendship as their guide. Dr. Adams has also earned recognition as a Tech Queen On The Scene, celebrated for her embrace of today’s tech-infused landscape.

Celebrating Accomplished Female Alabama Optometrists

A graduate of Dillard University,
Dr. Juanakee Adams, was the youngest person to receive early admission to the Indiana University School of Optometry.  After receiving her OD degree, Dr. Adams became the State of Alabama’s first licensed African American Female Optometrist in 1980. Afterwards, she founded Adams Eye Care, PC, in 1981.
